A: We use a specific vegan croissant recipe which includes vegan butter, kneading, and many layers of lamination for flakiness. The recipe also involves shaping the croissant dough into rectangles and triangles to achieve the classic croissant shape. Once they're formed, we let the croissants rise for 1 hour or until they double in size, then bake the croissants until golden brown. Q: What is the best vegan butter to use in vegan croissant recipe? A: At Bakery DuJour, we recommend using homemade vegan butter for the best results. It adds a great taste and works wonderfully in the lamination process to create flaky layers in the croissants. Q: How do you shape the croissants at Bakery DuJour? A: Shaping starts with the dough being rolled out into a rectangle shape. Then, we cut the dough into triangles using a sharp knife. We then roll the dough, starting at the base of each triangle and finishing at the point, creating the classic croissant shape. Finally, the ends are tucked in to make them look neat before the rising process. Q: How long does it take to make vegan croissants? A: Generally, it takes about 1 hour of active work to make the dough and shape the croissants, but the dough needs to rise until it is doubled in size which takes additional time. Then, it takes about 20 minutes to bake the croissants until they're golden brown. Q: How do you use vegan butter in your vegan croissant recipe? A: We use vegan butter in two main steps in our recipe. Firstly, we use it in the dough where it is mixed with the bread flour. Secondly, we use it to create a butter block for lamination. We knead the dough and place the butter block inside, then use a rolling pin to distribute it evenly, creating thin buttery layers. Q: How Do You Make The Croissants Flaky? A: The flakiness of our croissants comes from the process of lamination. This involves making a butter block with our vegan butter, enclosing it in the croissant dough, and then repeatedly rolling and folding the dough to create many thin layers of butter and dough. When baked, these layers puff up to create the characteristic flaky texture. Q: What's the best way to store the vegan croissants? A: Just store these croissants in an airtight container to maintain their freshness with parchment between to stop any sticking. They can be kept at room temperature for up to two days or frozen for longer storage. When ready to eat, simply warm them back up in the oven for that fresh, crusty exterior. Q: Can I learn how to make croissants that are vegan at home - are homemade vegan croissants doable? A: Absolutely! While the process may seem daunting at first, with the right instructions, quality ingredients and a little practice, you can achieve the same flaky and delicious results at home. In the mean time, just get these Bakery DuJour version from Coles. Q: What is used as a vegan egg wash for the croissants? A: We use a mixture of soy milk and a small amount of maple syrup as our vegan egg wash. This gives the croissants a beautiful golden brown finish and also adds a hint of sweetness. Q: Are these vegan croissants suitable for a vegan breakfast? A: Yes, definitely! These vegan croissants are the perfect vegan breakfast. Just preheat in the oven then you're good to go. They are flaky, delicious, and fully vegan! They can be enjoyed with a cup of coffee, vegan butter, or your favorite fruit preserves.
